Sumario:The article is meant to serve as a contribution to the discussion around the search for theoretical references that allow us to effectively address cultural difference, that is, as a path to respectful understanding and action in areas of diversity such as Latin American countries. Fist, this article analyses a specific case in which legal diversity became visible, namely, the indigenous trial of several indigenous people accused of a serious crime in November 2014 in the Department of Cauca, Colombia. Then, it briefly reviews the Colombian constitutional debate around indigenous jurisdictions from the perspective of multiculturalism and interculturalism. Finally, it proposes the concept of “historical pluralism” as a possible way to foster further debate.
