According to CENICAÑA, of the 200,000 hectares planted in sugarcane during the year,
160,000 ha are harvested in Colombia, and some 40,000 ha are renewed, which implies
the management of 8,000,000 t to 10,000,000 t of waste, the management of waste
of the area that is not going to be renovated cost between $ 4,800,000,000 and
$ 8,000,000,000 under the burnt cane modality, going to cost between
$ 14,400,000,000 and $ 19,200,000,000 if harvested in green and cost overruns
in the renovation area are around $ 480,000 $ / ha, which is
produce by having the land idle for about one or two months waiting for
waste is degraded and additionally giving it two or three more passes of
heavy harrow and one light harrow, that extra cost would have an additional value of
$ 11,200,000,000.
The previous situation in addition to the legal obligation that the sugar mills have
harvesting in green, made many natural and legal persons between
CENICAÑA will be interested in designing solutions for the adaptation of the
crop fields after harvest.
A group of engineers who provide mechanical advice to the mills designed a
mechanical device for the collection and adaptation of the biomass generated in
the harvest in green, they have built the prototype and it is being tested in the
Ingenio Risaralda, where they have made the necessary adjustments, reaching
define the entire mechanical part of the machine.
The device (Annex 1) consists of a mincer head and biomass ejector
which is pulled by a tractor and which in turn deposits the waste in a wagon
of cargo to be taken to its final disposal.
With the machine designed and built, the manufacturing engineers have the
need to define the sale price of the product, the profitability that can
throw machine to the biomass collector, the sale price of the
collected biomass, in general terms the financial evaluation of the
product innovation carried out.
The proposed project will perform the required financial evaluation based on the
knowledge learned throughout the development of the curriculum of the
Financial Engineering of the Universidad Libre de Pereira.
