Salary distribution heterogeneity with quantile regressssion in Colombia, 1996–2005

The present paper examines the return on education to estimate salary distribution variations in Colombia during the last decade. The empirical approximation strategy is quantile regressions following the routine of Angrist et. al. (2004). The results indicate that the performance pattern for the ra...

The empirical approximation strategy is quantile regressions following the routine of Angrist et. al. (2004). The results indicate that the performance pattern for the rates of return has been modified moving towards a decrease in almost all the quantiles with the exception of the inferior quantile. The aforementioned fact is consistent with the theoretical framework developed in this paper of a decrease in real salaries and a drop in relative income, and with a labor supply that is ever more educated and trained.
