Community interventions Physical activity Systematic review "Objective. To review community interventions designed to promote physical activity in specific groups. Methods. We carried out a systematic review of community interventions designed to promote physical activity in specific groups. Experiences published since 1990 in scientific articles were reviewed. The searching engines used in this study were the following: Lilacs, PubMed and SciELO. Results. From 30 interventions founded in the searching we obtained full text in 25 cases. The evaluation effect of interventions was made through randomized control trials in 17 cases, non-randomized control trials in 5 cases and before and after measure without control group in 3 cases. The theories and models behaviors used were Social Cognitive Theory (SCT) in 5 experiences, Transtheoretical Model (TM) in 3, combination of SCT and TM in 3 cases. 14 experiences did not document the model or theory used. In 19 cases we identified significant increase in physical activity. We did not find community interventions developed in Latin American countries. Conclusion. The majority of interventions had positive effects on increasing physical activity. It is important to evaluate effectiveness of community interventions in Latino American region. Future challenges should be aimed to integrate effects of interventions developed at different levels, environmental and community, focused on human specific groups. © 2002 Corporación Editora Médica del Valle." 2002 2020-05-26T00:04:43Z info:eu-repo/semantics/article info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersion 16579534 01208322 https://repository.urosario.edu.co/handle/10336/23710 eng info:eu-repo/semantics/openAccess application/pdf instname:Universidad del Rosario reponame:Repositorio Institucional EdocUR
